What To Know About Edible Orchids

Trying new things is a fun way to learn and grow, especially when it comes to new foods. One fun thing that you may want to add to your menu this year is edible flowers like orchids. Orchids aren't just one of those flowers that are fun to gift to your friends and family, but they make a great addition to a lot of different dishes. What is there for you to know about edible orchids?

Are All Orchids Edible?

It's fair to say that all orchid blooms are safe to eat, but some of them may upset your stomach. When you are first trying out orchids, just add a small amount to your cuisine and see how they are on your stomach. If you don't notice any weird changes or irritation, then you should be good to get more of them. When choosing an orchid to add to your cuisine, just make sure that you are only using the bloom and that it is fresh; dry orchids may upset the stomach if they have any mold on them.

How Can I Add Them to My Food?

Similar to other types of edible flowers, you can add orchids to your tea to infuse it, or you can add it to a variety of different foods including salads. Orchids are known to help bring out the flavors in certain greens and can  enhance the taste. If you want to really cook with orchids, then look up recipes online where the main component of the dish is orchids and go from there.

When choosing an orchid plant to cook with, make sure that it's strong and healthy with plenty of blooms that you can use. If you notice that you don't like the flavor of a specific type of orchid that you tried, consider switching to a different kind instead. Depending on your palate and how advanced it is, you may be able to pick up different tastes in different types of orchids than you normally would be able to.
